“CHANGE IS NEEDED’
MR. POLSON ATTACKS MEAT BOARD
VESTEYS AT WESTFIELD Press Association WELLINGTON, To-day. At an executive meeting of the Ntjw Zealand Farmers* Union, Mr. W. J. Poison put forward a suggestion that, a change was needed in the appointment of the Meat and Dairy-* Boards. lie criticised adversely the allowing of Vesteys to extend slaughter boards at Westfield, and said that personally lie was not satisfiied with the explanation given. He was inclined to think that Vesteys would not have built the addition if they* had not been sure of sympathetic treatment from the board. “The matter was one for producers." ho said. “We need a change in tho method of the appointment. Some at least of the members of both the Meat and Dairy Control Boards.” said Mr. Poison, who went on to say he was satisfied that a combined board, with half the members, could advantageously run the whole meat and dairy business. He believed the bulk of the farmers would support sucli reform, and the country generally would welcome it. The chairman might be a well-known and impartial business man, appointed by the Government. The executive went into committee to discuss the subject.
