* ~ WESTFIELD SALE WESTFIELD. 2.30 p.m. r An aggregate yarding of approximately 650 head of cattle at Westfield to-day met with a slightly easier market. Ox beef made up to 42s for choicest quality, compared with 43s last week. Best cows made to 375. [4 YARDING of approximately 350 steers, compared with 180 last "Week, was made up of mostly wellfinished. handy-weight cattle, dnjwn from all parts of the province. The attendance of buyers for tlie lirst hour or so was the poorest for many weeks, and bidding was left largely to the buyers of the big butchering firms. Exporters took slightly more interest than at recent sales, but prices still appeared above their limits, and very few pens went their way. Top price for a single beast was secured for one on account ITowie Bros., Morrinsville, which went for £l7 ss. One of tlie best quality’ even lines of heavy prime bullocks of the day came from B. Reed (Waerenga) to sell at £l6; four went to D. Heslop and Co. (Onehunga) and four to Lees and Co. (Otahuhu). Other pens of heavy prime cattle from the same vendor .Went for £l3 2s 6d and £ls ss. A line of 16 heavy prime medium - framed bullocks on account Mrs. Main, Hautapu, made from £l3 17s 6d to [£l6; $ choice prime young steers from the same vendor made £l3. Sixteen prime steers on account Howie Bros., Morrinsville. made to £ls 2s 6d. three on account Proctor Bros.. Ohinewai, made to £l4 10s. Twenty-three handy-weight steers On account of a Whangare client made from £ll 7s 6d to £ls. Well-finished medium-weight cattle bn account C. D. Sampson. Te Kau■whatn, made from £l3 os to £ll 12s ,6d. Twenty-five bullocks on account D. McDonald. Ohaupo, made from £l3 7s fd to £ls. An offering of approximately 300 b°ws and heifers had little of special quality. Heavy prime young cows and heifers made to £l3 10s; well finished, medium ditto, £9 to £lO 15s; light, from £7 10s to £8 17s 6d: unfinished and small, from £5 10s. Calves met with a very firm market, buyers for stores operating freely and •ending to send prices above late rates.
