OPENING A SHOW

WHO SHALL PERFORM THE CEREMONY?

HAMILTON IN QUANDARY

(From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, To-day. There was a piquant discussion at tne executive meeting of the Waikato n\ inter Show Association to-day on the question as to who will open this vear’s show. The president, Mr. A. K. Alexander, pointed out that the Rt. Hon. J. O. Coates performed the ceremonv last year and it had been the practice to alternate between the Prime Minister and the Governor-General. Mr. J. E. Tidd wanted to know if the association would be accused of political colour if it ignored Sir Joseph Ward, in view of the change of Government. Mr. F . H. Clapham said it would be a fine thing if the town could gee Sir Joseph Ward. There was a general feeling of optimism which would become more firmly established if the new Prime Minister were present at the show. Mr. Alexander asked what would happen if Parliament should meet before the show and the present Government were defeated? Mr. TidA said he considered that no parties wanted a change of Government now. It was decided to ask Sir Joseph Ward to open the show. Later it was pointed out that if the Prime Minister was unable to come it would be infra dig to ask the Gover-nor-General, who should not be second fiddle. Mr. Alexander said the question could be reviewed later.
