DICTATOR’S POWERS
INCREASE BY ROYAL DECREE KEEPING ORDER IN SPAIN (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. MADRID. Monday. New decrees signed by King Alfonso have invested General Primo de Rivera with the widest powers to deal with his political opponents. A special police department has been created to keep his Ministers informed as to matters -affecting the safety of the State. Extraordinary powers have been taken for the dismissal or replacement of any official showing hostility to the Government. A semi-official character is given to a strong political organisation of citizens, which has been co-operating with the Government, and is known as the Patriotic Union, by the creation of centres of investigation and intelligence. The Patriotic Union will collaborate with the authorities in maintaining public order.
