INDUSTRIAL AFFAIRS
AUCKLAND MANUFACTURERS
MEETING OF COMMITTEE General business was transacted at yesterday’s meeting of the Auckland Manufacturers’ Association’s committee. It was the first meeting of the year, and the chairman, Mr. G. Finn, took the opportunity of welcoming Mr. H. Welsh, manager of White Island Products, to the committee’s deliberations. Mr. W. D. Munn was granted leave of absence. “We were very pleased to meet the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Industries and Commerce, during his stay in Auckland,” remarked the chairman. “No one meeting him can fail to be impressed with his grasp of industrial affairs. He promises to be a very suitable Minister.” After reading a letter from the Auckland Chamber of Commerce detailing the itinerary of the English public school boys, who are to visit New Zealand, Mr. J. Findlay said it was unfortunate that the only factory they could visit in the district was a dairy factory at Hamilton. The position was discussed, and Mr. Findlay undertook to make further representations to the committee handling the arrangements. Mr. Welsh expressed disapproval of the rapidity of the tour in the South, and suggested that the value of New Zealand factories as examples of up-to-date enterprises should be stressed. The following new members were elected Auckland Electric - Power Board. Auckland Bedstead Company, Sun Newspapers, Ltd.
