DEATH OF MR. C. HAINES
HEAD OF ADVERTISING FIRM Press Association WELLINGTON. To-day. M.r. Charles Haines, governing director of tho Charles Haines Advertising Agency, died to-day. The late Mr. Charles Haines lias had a long and intensely interesting career in New Zealand business and journalistic circles, and at the lime of his death was recognised in the capital as a commercial figure of note. He was the governing- director of the Charles Haines Advertising Agency, Wellington, Auckland, Christchurch and Dunedin. From .1879 to 1885 Mr. Haines was on the head office staff of the New Zealand Railways, a position which ho left to enter journalism. For several years he was on the literary staff of the “Wairarapa Daily Times.” at Masterton, working himself through the stages of reporter and subeditor to that of managing editor. Ho was always intensely interested in tlio commercial side of newspaper work, and his energy did much toward helping the Wairarapa into prosperity. Later, Mr. Haines branched out on his own a newspaper advertising agent at AY'ellington, and from that modest business he worked himself into the connection which resulted in his ultimate business success.
