WILHELM SELLS ART TREASURES
INDIGNATION IN GERMANY (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) (United Service) Reed. 9.5 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. The “Sunday Times” reveals details of the ex-Kaiser’s sensational sale of masterpieces from the Mohenzollern collections at Potsdam, involving at least £500,000. The deepest mystery surrounds the transaction. Prominent Germans bitterly resent the loss of what are regarded as “national, and not personal, possessions.” They deplore the clandestine despatch of pictures via Switzerland, thus depriving German collectors of the option of purchasing Germany is incensed at the ridiculous prices at which many of the pictures were sold.
