SUBSIDIES FOR PILOTS
COBHAM'S AMBITIOUS PLANS (United Service) LONDON, Sunday. A White Paper issued by the Air Ministry discloses the fact that the Government has agreed to subsidise for ten years the national flying services, of which Sir Alan Cobliam is director. The object is to encourage the training of pilots throughout Britain, and the construction of British aircraft and equipment. A grant of £lO for the first three years and £5 after that will be payable in respect of each member of a flying club who qualifies for the issue or renewal of a licence on Britishmade and registered aircraft. It is provided that the total grant shall not exceed £15,000 a year for the first three years, and £7,500 after that. The company undertakes to construct and to maintain 20 airdromes and 80 landing-grounds within three years.
