Corrigan Team In Form at Nelson
FIXTURE CONCLUDES FAVOURITES’ ROYAL DAY (Special to THE SUN) NELSON, Saturday. The Nelson Trotting Club’s summer fixture concluded to-day in rainy weather, which militated against the attendance, which jn turn accounted for a decrease in the totalisator returns. The sum of £5.326 was put through the machine for the day, against £7,416 for the second day last year. The figures for the meeting were £11,250, compared with £13,211 for the 1928 carnival. Despite the paucity of the fields, the racing was keen and interesting, and punters had a great day, seven favourites succeeding in salliting the man in the box. The meeting was excellently conducted, the various officials doing all possible for the comfort of patrons under the unfavourable climatic conditions. The handicapping of Mr. G. S. Simpson, as usual, left nothing to be desired, and it was no fault of his that the fields were small. The Hawera stable of J. R. Corrigan had a successful day. Queen Elizabeth, Hostess and Richore, all being returned winners, and the former being successful on the opening day, Alex Corrigan increased his season’s total of winning drives by four. An error crept into the time of the Cup race on the opening day, being given as 4.36 3-5, but the correct time was 4.41 3-5. Krina, who gave M. B. Edwards his third success in the big event, established a race- record, which was held by last year’s winner, Neerson (4.42 2-5), also trained and driven by Edwards.
