PRIME MINISTER’S SCHEME

Replying - to a labour deputation today. the Prime Minister predicted that between 10,000 and 15.000 men would be absorbed when his railway schemes were placed under way. He threw out a suggestion to the Main Highways Board to put in hand some of their road operations. With the object of relieving existing pressure, the Government is prepared to consent to local body applications to relieve work on the basis of a £ for £ subsidy.
