SOLD FOR £5,300

ART TREASURES FROM NEW ZEALAND

HIGH PRICES AT CHRISTIE’S (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Saturday. The surprise of Christie’s picture sales was the disposal of 10 paintings, the property of Mrs. Lushington, of Mahurangi Heads, New Zealand, at high prices. A fine painting, “The Ferry,” 40 inches by 64 inches, signed "Van Ruisdael, 1644," fetched 3,000 guineas, though it failed to reach the reserve of 850 guineas when sent from New Zealand for sale in 1920. For this reason it was sent back to New Zealand. A seated group, 26 x 22, by the French ISth Century artist De Troy, brought 2,300 guineas.
