NEW TARIFF TREATY
PROTOCOL SIGNED AT NANKING
British Official Wireless. RUGBY, Friday. A protocol has been signqii at Nanking by a representative of the British Minister and Dr. C. T. Wang, whereby it 13 recognised that the terms of the new tariff treaty should be regarded as coming into force as from the date of the signature of this protocol. The Chinese Government and British merchants have been notified that the ratification of the treaty is expected by the end of this week at the latest, and that the British Government accepts this introduction of the new tariff as from February 1. The Chinese tariff autonomy was enforced yesterday throughout the country. Houses were beflagged and there was general rejoicing.
