ESCAPE THROUGH WINDOW

EARLY MORNING BLAZE AT NAPIER STREET

SICK WOMAN’S ORDEAL

Other means of exit being cut off, Mrs. Yates, of Napier Stret, Auckland, escaped from her burning residence through a window* early on Saturday. Shortly after 2 a.m. Mrs. Yates, the sole occupier of a house owned by Mr. S. J. Polgkise, was awakened by the sound of fire. She found herself unable to escape by the door to her room, and clambered through the window.

The fire brigade was called, and saved much of the house, but the kitchen, scullery, and another room were badly damaged. Mrs. Yates, who was in ill-health, is suffering from shock.
