“THE LAMBTON TWINS”

EARL OF DURHAM DEAD BROTHER SUCCEEDS TO TITLE (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) Reed. 11.47 a.m. LONDON, Thursday. The death has occurred of the Earl of Durham, at the age of 73. He will be succeeded by his twin brother, the Hon. Frederick Lambton. The earl’s death recalls details of the “Lambton twins.’’ The late earl was born a few seconds before his brother, and a blue ribbon was tied around his waist to assure that, as the elder, he would succeed to the title. The twins were almost Indistinguishable in appearance. They joined the Coldstream Guards <|i the same day. one in the morning and the other Id the evening. They became known as the "Morn ing Star” and the “Evening Star.”
