GAOL INMATE GETS FURTHER MONTH OBSTRUCTED POLICE William Bowler, who is at present staying at a Government institution on the slopes of Mount Eden, will be leaving a month later than he originally expected. The police are evidently no friends of Bowler, who rather rashly espoused the cause of the under dog recently and was called to account at the Police Court this morning. Bowler, a middle-aged labourer, pleaded not guilty on a charge of obstruction. Constable Collins said that he was on the ground struggling with a troublesome man, whom he was arresting, when Bowler attempted to assault him. Some bystanders joined in the scuffle and assisted witness, who was fully occupied with what he was doing. Bowler’s assertion that he was never within 10ft of the constable was not believed, and Sub-Inspector McCarthy mentioned that the man was at present serving a term in gaol as he had been concerned in a fraud against the Returned Soldiers’ Association. “A month’s imprisonment, to be served after the expiration of the present sentence,” was the only comment made by Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M.
