SUNDAY BOWLS ARE NOT NEW IN WELLINGTON

Wellington appears to be unique in that there are a number of its bowling clubs which indulge in Sunday play, and have done so for quite a number of years (writes THE SUN'S Wellington correspondent). The fact that the Waitemata Club in Auckland had decided to adopt Sunday play, and that the fact had been telegraphed to all parts of New Zealand caused some surprise in the capital city, as the Eastbourne, Seatoun, Petone, Petone Central, Lower and Upper Hutt, and other suburban clubs are always open for play on Sundays and already there is agitation in progress for the more central city clubs to follow suit. The old-fashioned idea of no games on Sunday is a dead letter so far as Wellington is concerned, as tennis and golf, as well as bowls, are freely indulged in in all parts of the district.
