SHOOTING JUSTIFIED
AUSTRALIAN AND PAPUAN NATIVES (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) CANBERRA, "Wednesday. The board which has been inquiring into the shooting by policemen of 17 aboriginals in Central Australia last year after the murder by natives of a station-owner concluded its investigations to-day. It found that the action of the policemen was justified and exonerated them from blame. The board also found that no provocation had been given which might reasonably account for the depredations of and attacks by aboriginals on white settlers in Central Australia. Neither was there any evidence of starvation among the report from Mr. M. S. C. Smith, Administrator of Papua, upon the shooting of three natives on December 12, has been received by the Prime Minister, Mr. S. M. Bruce. This states that a patrol came into collision with natives near Mount Yule. The assistant resident magistrate, Mr. Grist, held an inquiry and he expressed the opinion that the firing appeared to be justified and that no blame was attached to the police.
