In a Setting of Blue Blossoms

Lace and Tulle for Yesterday’s Bride

Colbeck-Ferguson Wedding

THE delicate blue of a thousand hydrangea blooms, relieved here and there with the cool greenness of bamboo fronds and accented by the deeper blue of her three attendants’ gowns, made an exquisite background in St. Andrew’s Church at Epsom yesterday afternoon for Miss Helena Mickaelina Ferguson, the younger daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. M. Ferguson, who was married by the Rev. F. P. Willis, to Mr. Grey Francis Colbeck, the second son of Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Colbeck, of Remuera.

Silver lace gleamed here and there on the beautiful gown of white tulle chosen by the bride. Alade with a slenderly-fitting corsage of fine lace attached in vandyked manner to a bouffant skirt of tulle mounted on cloth of silver, the frock was given additional charm by a slim girdle of silver caught with a rhinestone buckle in front. The long sleeves were of tulle, and from the shoulders a silver mitred train drifted down to be caught with an effective horseshoe of orange blossoms. Brussels lace appeared in the veil, which was held by a chaplet of orange blossoms, and fell in graceful lines over the silver train. The bride, who was given away by her father, completed her distinctive toilette with a sheaf of Aladonna lilies. Diminutive Maid A picturesque little train-bearer was Aliss Betsy Reed, a niece of the bride, who was dressed in old world fashion. Blue taffeta of delphinium shade, fashioned her ankle-length frock, which had a billowy crinoline skirt and quaint little sleeves of puffed design. A blue poke bonnet trimmed with pink rosebuds was worn. The two bridesmaids were the Alisses Marjory Stewart and Nancye Colbeck, and their frocks of blue georgette were also expressed in a pretty flower tint of delphinium persuasion. From closefitting bodices the skirts were developed with full gathered lines that fell prettily to feature uneven hems, while from the shoulders a piquant touch was given by crossed sashes that fell to the ground. Buckles of rhinestones gave a bright finish to the girdles that adorned the frocks. Picture hats of blue crinoline straw were worn, and were effectively relieved with pink roses, and each maid carried a shower of rose-coloured carnations. The bridegroom was attended by his brother, Mr. Stewart Colbeck, as best man, and Air. P. Williams, of "Wellington, as groomsman. The ushers were Air. Alervyn Reed, All*. N. Louisson, Air. B. Elliott and Dr. Lawrence Ludbrook. At the Reception After the ceremony a very large number of guests were entertained at a reception at Te Kowhai, where Air. and Airs.
