four badly injured BOY’S LUCKY ESCAPE ACCIDENT IN THE CITY Four people were injured, two o£ ♦hero seriously, when a passenger lift rrashed down four floors this mornAll the passengers are now' in hospital. one of them with two ankles fractured, and another with one. The mishap occurred at the warehouse of Messrs. Brown, Barrett, Ltd., in Customs Street East at about 8 a m. The lift fell from the third floor to the cellar without wrning, and the injuries were sustained when tho falling lift crashed on to the concrete at the bottom The injured are: Mr G. Piank, of Arthur Street, Onehunga. both ankles broken. Miss D. Scott, of 24 Domain Ttoacl, right ankle injured, back injured, and Bh Miss M. Geddis. 56 Wynyard Street, right ankle injured. Miss W. Keller, 56 Wynyard Street, right ankle fractured. The most fortunate member of the staff is a lad named Sidney Valmaine, who got off the lift at the second flour in order to get an apron, the lift going on without him. The cause of the mishap is not quite clear.the wire rope being intact but appearing to have come off the winding drum. The lift is used more for carrying goods than for anything. The St. John Ambulance was called up immediately after the accident, and two ambulances were sent to Customs Street, the injured being sent to hospital.
