FOXTON HAS HARBOUR BUT HAS NO TRADE
PLAN TO GET SHIPS BOARD WILL BUY BOATS Unless it can do something to stimulate trade to its port the Foxton Harbour Board will have to cease its activities. rpHIS was the announcement made to the Harbours Association's Conference yesterday afternoon, by. Mr. J. A. Nash, a member of that board. The question cropped up when Mr. J. Linklater, its chairman, moved that harbour boards operating in coastal transportation be empowered to raise a certain sum for the purchase of suitable boats for their respective trades. Seconding. Mr. Nash said the board had facilities for the handling of cargo, but very few boats used the port. Tho position was serious, and the board proposed to start a service, if it could get Government support. It would be unfortuiate for the Alanawatu district if Foxton’s port had to close up. In former years it had greatly benefited the hinterland. The motion was carried unanimously.
