CLAY BIRD SHOOTING

NEW LYNN GUN CLUB TURNER WINS CHAMPIONSHIP At the New Lynn Gun Club’s shoot on Tuesday a number of keenly contested events, including the club championship, was held., Shooting conditions were good until the afternoon, when a troublesome light was encountered by the competitors. No. 1 match was for the club championship. The match drew 15 shooters. The winner was W. Turner (18yds), who shot the possible. A. E. Macreadie and C. E. Hodge tied for second place with 20 each, one below the possible. In the shoot-off Macreadie (18yds), beat Hodge. The winner is one of the most popular members of the club. No. 2 shoot , of 15 birds, for the president’s cup, drew' 21 shooters. J. Murrell (11yds), L. Stent (15yds), and H. E. Knight (14yds), tied with 14 birds each. In the shoot-off Murrell won on the twenty-second bird, with Knight runnerup. No. 3 shoot was a lady’s trophy match of 10 birds, to be shot for by gentlemen, for a trophy presented by Mr. J. Murrell. A. E. Macreadie (19yds) was first with nine birds, while C. E. Hodge (19yds) and L. Stent (15yds), each with eight birds, tied for second. Mrs. F. C. McGeehan drew' Macreadie as her shooter and was presented with the trophy. No. 4 shoot was a 10 birds match for the friends trophy. The result was: H. E. Knight (15yds), nine birds, 1; L. Ramsey (12yds), eight birds, 2. No. 5 shoot was a 10 birds match for novices for a trophy presented by Mr. C. A. Whitney. The match resulted in a dead heat between L. Ramsey (14yds) and P. N. Galley (17yds), with eight birds each. In the shoot-off Gallye won on the fifteenth bird. At the conclusion of the matches the prizes were presented by the president, Dr. H. Pettit, and afternoon tea was provided by the ladies.
