RAIN ENDS PLAY
MATCH AT ADELAIDE i DRAWN ENGLAND WELL AHEAD (United, P.A.—Bp Telegraph—Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) ADELAIDE, Tuesday. The cricket match, England v. South Australia, at Adelaide, ended to-day in a draw. The attendance was poor. The weather at the outset was dull and threatening and finally rain fell. When stumps were drawn on Monday the visitors had made 307 runs for five wickets in their second innings. This gave them a lead of 521 and Chapman this morning declared the innings closed at that stage. In their second innings the South Australians again suffered early disaster. Richardson was dismissed for three. Hack and Harris batted very slowly, only scoring 41 in an hour. An early adjournment was made for luncheon owing to rain. Play was subsequently resumed 15 minutes late on a wet wicket. The greasy ball hampered the bowlers. Harris and Hack batted freely for half an hour, and added 34. Further rain then drove the players to shelter. The rain continued until 4.30 p.m., when the two captains agreed that further play was impossible. Consequently the match was drawn.
