STUCK ON SANDBANK
MEN AND WOMEN SPEND NIGHT AT SEA ENGINE BREAKS DOWN Foi lowing the experience of three men and a woman who were forced to stay all night in a becalmed yacht on Saturday, two men and two young women spent last night in an open motor-launch in the Manukau Harbour. The engine of the boat had broken down, and the boat drifted on to a sandbank and stuck fast. The Onehunga police rescued the party at four o’clock this morning. Those in the party were Messrs. Bellringer and Winstone, and Misses Patten and Simmers. The party left Blockhouse Bay yesterday afternoon on a fishing expedition, but the engine failed before the fishing ground was reached. The four were members of a camping party, and considerable anxiety was felt. When the Onehunga police were informed, Sergeant Burnett and Constable Poll went out in a launch to search the harbour. All the members of the party were chilled to the bone by the time the police arrived. No warm clothing had been taken. The disabled boat was towed to Blockhouse Bay.
