SMALL BLOCKS OF LAND
VIGOROUS SETTLEMENT PLAN GOVERNMENT’S SCHEME (Special to 7?HE SUN) WELLINGTON, To-day. Fifty and 75-acre blocks are the size of the holdings which the Government intends to make available for settlement under its scheme to place more people upon the land. Already, the Prime Minister has announced, Cabinet has decided to acquire one large block of land for purposes of subdivison. The location of the estate, however, will not be announced for a few days, as all necessary negotiations have not been completed. This is expected to be followed by other purchases as soon as the Minister of Lands, the Hon. G. W. Forbes, is able to complete a tour of the country and inspect the properties which have been recommended for purchase by the conference of Crown Lands Commissioners which recently concluded in Wellington. A vigorous policy of land settlement is promised for this year.
