UNIQUE CONFERENCE

RAIL DIRECTORS CONSULT THEIR MEN (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) LONDON, Monday. A conference unique in railway history was held in the offices of the Great Western Company at Paddington. Booking clerks, porters, enginedrivers, signalmen. guards and greasers conferred with the directors on the subject of salesmanship in its relation to railways, with special reference to the competition from motorcar traffic. Sir Felix Pole, general manager of the company, said the railways could no longer wait for the public to come to them. They must go to the public. Railway employees of every grade could be salesmen, canvassers and advertisers for their own lines. The railway workers present freely took part in the evening discussion and made many suggestions, which were welcomed by the directors.
