GENERAL WILL RETIRE
LONDON PAPER’S STORY FIGHT FOR PRINCIPLES (United P.A.—By Telegraph — Copyright) (Australian and N.Z. Prtss Association) Reed. 11.46 a.m. LONDON, Sunday. Eleventh-hour negotiations to achieve an amicable out-of-court settlement of the Salvation Army dispute have been in progress during the week-end. The “Daily Herald’’ understands that General Booth is prepared to withdraw from the court on condition that he is allowed to retire. He is prepared to destroy the sealed envelope containing the name of his selfappointed successor. He will leave the High Council to nominate a new general and his entourage. The paper considers that these concessions might pave the way to a settlement, but it is not optimistic, as it is realised that the High Council has been driven into court, and is now engaged in fighting for principles affecting the Army, not only at the present time, but in the future.
