Subdivision or Gold Money In Wynyard Plate ?

One of the most interesting items on to-morrow's card at Takapuna is the Wynyard Plate, a “classic" event for hacks over seven furlongs. At the time of the final payment a fortnight ago there were 17 left in the race, and it is possible that one or two may drop out at acceptance time, midday to-day. This is written prior to that time. • Conspicuous among them is Gold Money, who, strange to say, is still eligible for -hacks, although 4ier total earnings in stakes amount to £7BO.

This unlucky filly is just about due, but it will be quite in the expected run of things if something else bobs up to deprive her of the thick end of the prize, as it did in the Takapuna Plate a couple of months ago. The Lover just touching her off on that occasion. Built for Speed The most dangerous competitor that Gold Money will probably have to meet may be Subdivision, a sprinter when at his best that could hold his own in better company than in the race under review. At Thames Subdivision won a hack sprint and on the second day. captured the open six from High Finance, who had spreadeagled her field the first day, and again on Saturday at Takapuna. The Tatter’s form makes it look extra good for Subdivision to-morrow. The owner of Subdivision has been somewhat unlucky in not having wpn a good many sprint races already, for there is no doubt about the Surveyor gelding’s speed. He has not been over-raced, and this fact alone sug-

gests that he has been a difficult horse to train. WeVe Heard of Her It is surely not necessary to recapitulate the doings of Gold Money, a very speedy filly who has been dogged with wretched luck this season. However, it is a long lane that has no turning, and a win for her tomorrow would be undoubtedly popular.

These two_stood out prior to Saturday, but after the first day’s racing a new star has arisen. This is The Begum, a three-year-old sister to Supremacy. The filly’s win in the Trial on Saturday was full of merit.

for she was doing it on her head at the finish. How will she rank with the likes of Gold Money and Subdivision? After watching her closely on Saturday, one is inclined to the view that she might seriously . bother both of them. A Strong Field Outside of the trio referred to, there are Leitrim, Arikitoa (who may b| better for Saturday’s race). Air "King (a likely sort in a contest of this description), Appellant (ran an excellent race in Saturday’s sprint after dwelling on the mark), Mussie (still capable of improvement). Justify, Palmares, Standfast, Arihana, Lido,’ Sir Mond and Bold Archer. From this list, even allowing for some to drop out at nud-day to-day. it will be seen that there is ample material for a stirring struggle. At this juncture the two that make most appeal to investors are GOLD MONEY and SUBDVISION. Other good ones outside this pair are The Begum, Leitrim, Mussie, Appellant and Air King.
