93 YEARS OLD TO-DAY
WAIKATO PIONEER (From Our Own Correspondent) HAMILTON, Monday. Mrs. E. Munro, of Horsham Downs. Horotiu, celebrates her 93rcl birthday to-day. Mrs. Munro came to New Zealand 64 years ago with her husband, the late Mr. Philip Munro. in the ship Swift Shore. She landed at Onehunga and came to the Waikato, where she has lived ever since.
Mr. Munro was a member of the 4th Waikato Militia, stationed at Hamilton. In the early days of the settlement the soldiers and their families lived in tents, but later occupied barracks.
Details of the Maori War and the hardships of the pioneering days are recalled by Mrs. Munro. who is still vigorous in spite of her age. For a number of years she lived in Whitiora, Hamilton, but two years ago she removed to Horsham Downs.
