PETROL TAX
£206,839 FOR QUARTER AUCKLAND RECEIVES £2,458 Press Association WELLINGTON. To-day. The Minister of Public Works, the lion. E. A. Ransom, states that the petrol tax collected for the period between October 1 and December 31 totalled £206,839 11s lOd. Mr. Ransom explains that, after deducting from the total given the amount of refunds, cost of administration, and Customs Department charges for collections, there is a balance of £193,160 15s sd, of which sum 93 per cent. (£177,707) would be paid to the Main Highways Revenue Fund, while the remaining S per cent., representing £15,451. would be available for distribution among the boroughs and cities with a population of 6,000 and over. On this basis, Wellington, which tops the list, will receive £2.512. Auckland’s share will be £2,458.
