WAS IT A JOKE?
DAIRY COWS MISSING FOUND AT IHUMATAO Eighteen dairy cows which disappeared mysteriously from Te Papapa on Thursday night were found yesterday at Ihumatao. seven miles away. It is not known whether au at tempi was made to steal the cows, or whether the incident was a practical joke. The animals belonged to Barnett Brothers, who have a dairy farm at Te Papapa. Yesterday morning, at about 5 o’clock, when one of the brothers went to a paddocy near the woollen mills where the cows were kept until daybreak, he found them missing. The gate to the paddock was closed, but there was no padlock on it and »he animals might easily have broken out. though there is plenty of grass for them. When searching for the cattle the brothers were informed that they had been seen crossing the Mangere Bridge at 4 o'clock that morning. Later in the morning they were seen by a farmer at Ihumatao wandering along the road, so he placed them in a paddock. The animals were returned to the Barnett brothers yesterday afternoon.
