After packing his trunk with a view to going to New Zealand to see liis son, Francis Sherie, a black and white artist of Winchmore Hill pinned a notice to his bedroom door, “Gas, open the windows before opening the door.’’ He then turned on the gas. A verdict that he committed suicide while of unsound mind was recorded by the coroner. It was said in evidence that the ' idea of becoming * a burden on his family had depressed Sherie.
