“OUT OF THE RUINS” AT ROYAL
Devotion seldom encountered but often told of in stories of fact and fiction, occurs in “Out of the Ruins,”’ starring Richard Barthelmess. which comes to the Royal Theatre, Kingsland, this evening. A young lieutenant of chasseurs in the French Army during the war falls in love, while on leave, with the sister of his buddie. They are separated by the call to duty, and a slacker tries to marry the girl. Unable to get leave when he hears this, the lieutenant deserts and is court-martialled when he goes back. How this difficult problem is straightened out to the satisfaction of all makes a very fine drama. John Francis Dillon directed and Marian Nixon is leading woman. “Anyone Here Seen Kelly” is the second feature. This is an amusing comedy starring Jessie Love and Tom Moore. “CREDIT TO ITS NATIVE LAND” Mr. G. A. Atkinson, the well-known dramatic critic of the “Sunday Express,” London, writes as follows: “After seeing ‘Tommy Atkins' last evening I am bound to say that Captain Walker has produced a - spectacle of irresistable charm and buoyancy, a thoroughly hearty display of popular sentiment as British as roast beef. The military parades organised by Captain Oak-Jones, director of military pageants for the War Office, are magnificent. lan Hay’s adaptation is simply stirring. British International Pictures have every possible reason to be proud of ‘Tommy Atkins,’ and. like the origina.l drama, it is a credit to its native land.”
