THEFT OF GRASS-SEED
[YOUNG MEN GIVEN A CHANCE RESTITUTION ORDERED Three young men, who stole grass-seed valued at £6 while they were out of work, were given a chance at the Police Court this morning. Arthur Lewis, Ernest Turner and Frank Barakat were charged with the theft of grass-seed valued at £6. Mr. Allan Moody entered a plea of guilty and asked for leniency. “These young men are aged 20, 21 and 22,” said counsel. “When they took the seed they were out of work. They sold the seed for £6 4s. The men have now found work and I would suggest that the case be adjourned.” Chief-Detective Hammond: They will have to make restitution. The seed, which was taken from the Ellerslie School, is now in the hands of a dealer. The case was adjourned for four months, a condition being that restitution of £6 4s be paid.
