A huge distance yet remains to be covered. Miss de Haviland, a sister of the famous airplane designer, started with America and came down through Mexico. She found a revolver a com. forting possession iu parts of th es ’ countries, the “breed?” not impressing her favourably. He- small car created interest and amusement, and the negroes in places turned out all sorts of derelicts to race the visitor. Mexican roads were the worst en. countered so far, the mud in places* being axle deep. Miss de Havilands stay in y ew Zealand is nearly ended, and to-mor. row she will leave for Australia on her way to her home, which she left i a November. After covering some 3,000 miles i a Australia the car will be shipped to India, and after that will be taken to Brindisi for the final portion of the journey. On one of the Australian stretches sufficient benzine will be necessary f or a run of 500 miles, but Shell Is used on the trip and the Shell Oil Com! pany is assisting in this direction.
