TIMBER FOR SCHOOLS
LOCAL SUPPLIES SMALL DEPARTMENT’S DIFFICULTIES (Special to THE SUN) DUNEDIN, Wednesday. Supplies o£ New Zealand Umbel's are difficult to secure from timber merchants, although sawmillers comjilaxn that the supply far exceeds the demand. This anomalous position was revealed at a meeting of the Otago Education Board, in a report from the architect on timber for school buildings.
Mr. J. Mitchell thought the use of imported timber was due to some e?vtent to a want of proper effort on the part of the sawmillers. He moved that a copy of the architect’s report should be forwarded to the Government. Mr. J. Horn, in seconding the motion, said for some years past petitions had come before Parliament, which ha.l done its best. He thought that if the attention of the timber merchants were drawn to the architects’s report they would do their best to remedy the matter. . The motion was carried.
