WORK OF W.E.A.
SCOPE IN COUNTRY DOMINION CONFERENCE REMITS Press Association DUNEDIN, To-day. The annual conference of the Dominion W.E.A. commenced last evening, and concluded this morning, delegates being present from all centres. The annual report stated that during last session the association organised IS2 classes, with 6,692 students. The report urged that it was in rural areas that tho association must justify its existence, for there people were out of touch with any direct educational force. It was for the Government to provide its best facilities for development. A remit that the apportionment of all State and University grants be made on the basis of the population in the various University districts, instead of equally among the four districts, was lost.
Professor Hunter resigned the editorship of the “Highway” magazine. The conference recommended the Dominion Council to consider the advisability of appointing a W.E.A. tutor as editor.
Miss Webster and Messrs. Milner dnd T. Brasch were appointed delegates to represent the conference, at a conference of the World Association for Adult Education, at Cambridge, England, in August. The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. H. D. Acland; treasurer, Mr. A. H. Shrubshall; secretary, Mr. G. Manning. It was decided to hold the next conference at the same locale as the University Council.
