RACING AT ROTORUA

RACING FIXTURES

CARD TO BE PRESENTED Provincial fixtures, no matter in what part of the province they are held, generally find favour with sportsmen in and around Auckland, and a meeting which will shortly engage the attention of racegoers is that held at Arawa Park. Rotorua, under the auspices of the Rotorua Racing Club — and a good meeting ir. should prove to be, too, for the programme submitted for its annual gathering fills all requirements. Hast year’s meeting was quite satisfactory from every viewpoint, and a continuation of the prevailing weather conditions will ensure for the club a two days’ outing which will go nigh to eclipsing all previous records. Naturally racing men evince most interest in the financial part of the question: that is, the distance of each respective race and what would be the profits accrued as the result of winning a heat. The Programme However, no complaint can come from this direction, for the stake money allocated to the two days amounts in all to a little over £2,500 The Rotorua Cup in itself is a race worth £3OO, not including a handsome gold cup valued at £SO. This event is run over- a mile and a-quar-ter and should prove to be one of the star attractions on the card. The supporting items on the first day’s programme are the Pohutu ITighweight. of £l4O. one mile: the Hot Springs Handicap, of £120; six furlongs; the Makoia Handicap, of £125, seven furlongs; the Waimangu Handicap, of £l2O, five furlongs; the Geyser Handicap, of £125, one mile: the Tourist Handicap, of £2OO, six furlongs; and the Arawa Handicap, of £l5O, one mile. For the second day the events consist of the Tarawera High-weight, of £l4O. one mile: the Electric Handicap, of £l2O, six furlongs; the Ohinemutu Hack Cup, of £l2O and silver cup valued £25, one mile; the President’s Handicap, of £220. one mile* the Rennie Handicap, of £125, seven furlongs; the Borough Handicap, of £175, six furlongs: the Flying Stakes, of £l2O, six furlongs; and the Farewell Handicap, of £l5O. seven furlongs.
