WELLINGTON, Wednesday. The annual New Zealand thoroughbred sales were held at Trentham to-day, when « hundred yearlings were offered to a large attendance. Bidding commenced slack, but improved, and in the afternoon a record for the Dominion was established when Mr. Vivian Riddiford purchased a brown colt by Limor.d from Wiaterways (brother to Agrion) for 2,400 guineas. Carter, Dunedin . . 1.10 BRISK BIDDING Messrs. Wright, Stephenson and Co. Wellington, and H. Chisholm and Co., of Sydney, provided the afternoon catalogue, with Mr. K. Austin acting as auctioneer. This section of the sale opened quietly, but it livened up with the appearance of the Chief Ruler —Rosellate colt, for whom there was spirited competition, until his purchase by Mr. C. Elgar, owner of the Wellington Cup winner Vertigern. for 1.300 guineas. He is a good-looking colt from a staying family. The real excitement came with the arrival of Mr. G. M. v Currie’s drafts. Bids came quick and fast for the colt by Limond from Waterwings, a. full brother to the New Zealand Derby’ winner, Agrion. He fell to the bid of Mr. V. Riddiford at 2,400 guineas. Messrs. G. D. Geenwood, T. H. Lowry and the Sydney owner, Mr. 13. Moss, were the other bidders. The price paid for this colt was a New Zealand record, being a hundred more than was paid for Honour last year.
