SURF-BOAT FATALITIES
THIRD BODY RECOVERED BRAVERY OF MAORI ( Special to THE SUN) TE KUITI, Tuesday. The body of Mr. John Riddell, who was drowned last Friday evening as a result of a surf-boat capsizing off the . Hari llari run, near Marokopa, was * washed ashore this morning on the Taharoa Beach, about five miles from the scene of the tragedy. An inquest will be held by Mr. James Kearns, the dis- • trict coroner. The body of Ru Pei is still missing, but a continuous search of the ocean beach is maintained. A tangi is in progress at Taharoa in connection with (|-j0 death of Charlie the third victim of the accident. Evidence at the inquest concerning his death, which was held on Saturday, disclosed that the six Maoris remained loyally by Mr. Riddell when the boat overturned, he being an indifferent swimmer, but all were exhausted by the struggle in the breakers. Rui Pei was a particularly fine swimmer and accustomed to this work, but he was exhausted through his efforts to save his employer and friend.
