WAX FLOWERS

First make your paper flowers, and finish them off completely. Then get three pure wax candles, cut them into small pieces, removing the wick, and put them into a pint pan or any deep vessel. Place it on the stove over a steady fire until the pieces are melted, and a blue vapour rises. Draw to one side, dip your flowers in, one at a time, completely covering them with the wax, then take out and shake well. If any of the petals are out of shape, put them back in their proper position, and place in a vase to dry. If liked, the flowers can be sprinkled with "Jack Frost” while tlie wax is lint. The wax must be carefully watched while heating, as it burns very easily. Crinkled paper makes the prettiest flowers. EMIGRANTS Where do you come from, dahlia bold? Mexicans gathered my flowers of old. Where do you come from, crocus flame? Out of Itlian groves I came. Where do you come from, sunflower high ? Child of Peru’s hot plains am I. Where do you come from, peony red? Mandarins walked beside my bed. Where do you come from, tulip pied? Persian warriors taught me pride. Where do you come from fuchsia gay? Hither and thither my boughs have curled, For I was meant for the whole round world.
