NEW POST OFFICE

MOUNT ALBERT’S NEED The need of a new post office for the Mount Albert and Edendale districts was brought forward at a meeting of the Mount Albert Borough , Council last evening, the Mayor, Mr. L. E. Rhodes, presiding. It was decided to take all possible steps to have a new post office provided. The Zealand Tourist League suggested that an endeavour be made to have the line leading to the Mount Albert ballast pit vested in the council as soon as possible, and an avenue of trees planted with a view to forming a path. It was decided the league be informed that application had already been made to the Railway Department, which was at present sloping the sides of the pit, to make them safe. The engineer submitted plans for the' New North Road extension, and suggested, that the scheme adopted should be the construction of two concrete strips. He was instructed to call tenders for the work along those lnies. In reply to a question, the engineer said only temporary men had been dismissed from the council’s employ. No permanent employees had been put off. Mr. W. G. Russell said in contracts there were employed at the present time single men and men from other districts, when married ratepayers were out of work. The building inspector reported that 34 permits, involving £8,575, had been issued since last meeting.
