NO SWIM TO-DAY
WATER TOO CHOPPY FOR WEBSTER NOT YET REACHED TIRI Although it was intended that Ronald Webster, of Takapuna, should swim from Tiri Island to Milford this afternoon, it is now' practically certain that unfavourable conditions will prevent the attempt being made. The lighthouse-keeper at Tiri reported at 1.30 p.m. that the launch which left Takapuna with Webster and his trainer on board had not appeared and that the water was choppy. It was expected that Webster would enter the water at Tiri at noon to-day, in an attempt to swim from that point to Milford Beach. The Ufcunch which was to accompany Webster in his attempt to swim the 12 miles of water left Takapuna at 10.5 o’clock this morning. Webster anticipated that the swim, if successfully accomplished, would occupy between five and six hours. At the time of departure, conditions were not favourable, a stiff breeze blowing off shore and a very choppy sea running.
