“NELL 0’ NEW ORLEANS”
VANBRUGH-BOUCICAULT SEASON “.Nell o’ New Orleans,” which has been delighting Aucklanders during the brief revival by the Irene VanbrughDion Boucicault company, at His Majesty’s Theatre, will be presented for the last time this evening. Much of the fragrance of a New Orleans garden is suggested in the play. Miss Vanbrugh and Dion Boucicault both give masterly portrayals of the prominent parts.. The story is always refreshing. “Nell o’ New Orleans” has met with as much success in the present stagings as it did when the company played it in Auckland five years ago; As Nell, Miss Vanbrugh is delightful, and Mr. Boucicault is at his best as the little French priest. To-morrow evening and on Friday and Saturday evenings, A. A. Milne’s famous comedy, “Air. Pirn Passes By,’’ will be revived. Judging by the booking, it will prove as popular as it did when it was presented in Auckland five years ago. Record audiences were attracted then. Mr. Boucicault’s finished representation of Air. Pim has delighted thousands of theatre-goers. Mr. Pim is undoubtedly one of the best of the actor’s characterisations. Aliss Vanbrugh, in the previous visit, achieved one of the best triumphs of her career as Olivia. Only three performances can be given of “Mr. Pim Passes By.” On Alonday evening next C. E. Openshaw’s much-anticipated comedy, “All the King’s Horses,” will be staged. It will be presented six times and will be followed by “The High Road” and “Aren’t We All?” Plans for “All the King’s Horses” open on Friday morning.
