WANGANUI REGATTA
MISS ARAWA’S WIN (Special to THE SUN) ■ WANGANUI, Tuesday. The Wanganui Anniversary Regatta held here to-day attracted large crowds. The chief event on the programme was the Masport Cup, for which four speed boats entered. The event was won by Alderton Bros’ (Wanganui) boat, J and J, with Hobo, Auckland boat, second. From a good start Little Jim was the first to show out, followed by Hobo, J and J and One Step. When 50 yards had been covered J and J went to the front and was never headed, eventually Avinning by a mile from Hobo, which finished second. The J and J’s time Avas 31m 29s and the distance 15 nautical miles. The J and J has A\*on the Masport Cup three times in succession. The ITelean Cup, an open handicap for outboard boats was won by the Auckland boat Miss Arawa with Miss Clevedon, another Auckland entrant second. The J and J was handicapped out of the race, but put up the fastest time, thus Avinning the Cup, Avhile the Miss Arawa and Miss Clevedon share the prize money. Another excellent contest Avas the third handicap event for all classes of speed craft. Avhich Avas Avon by Onesten, with J and J second, and the Hobo third. In the outboard classes. Auckland scooped the pool. Humbug winning from Fleetun, well ahead of the less highlypowered local craft. The B class outboard handicap was won by Miss Arawa, with Humbug second. Miss Akarana and Fleetun also started. A. gudgeon coming away on the Miss Akarana, resulted in the engine being smashed. Miss Akarana was first in the B class outboard championship, Humbug being second, and Avon the inter provincial outboard handicap, with Moth second and Humbug third.
