COMMITTEE ALLOWED TO RESIGN END OF DARGAVILLE TROUBLE 'lf the men can’t carry on, we will give a woman a chance,” said the chairman of rhe Education Board today, when the resignations of the Dargaville School Committee were at last accepted. Airs., Gregor/, on the recommendation of the chairman of the board, Mr. A, Burns, was appointed the school’s commissioner until the next election of school committees. Previously the board had refused to accept, the resignation of the committee, which got into debt. and was looked upon as bankrupt Members wished to give up their office. A letter, considered by the board to-day, read: “We absolutely refuse to act any further, and we are forwarding all books and accounts to your board. We are therefore taking no action in securing tenders for cleaning for the New Year, and in addition sundry accounts of £54 are still owing.” The headmaster of the school .appealed to the board for the reappointment of cleaners, so that the buildings could be scrubbed out. before reopening. The Dargaville Borough Council also wrote to the board th % atening “further action” unless an account of £62 12s Bd. outstanding for 12 months, was settled soon. “You’ve heard Dargaville’s side before.” said Mr. Burns. “One of the committee is a correspondent to a paper.” He explained that the board had advanced £23 6s out of the current quarter’s capitation allowance for cleaning expenses. The committee had the balance of £ls 9s to draw, but it would go no further. “Evidently the people cannot carry oil, or won’t do so,” he continued. “We should evidently meet the situation, accept the resignations, and get a manager or commissioner to carry on.
