Borg Expected to Race in Auckland

TOUR DURING MARCH TWO APPEARANCES SOUGHT Will Arne Borg, the Swedish swimming champion who put up such a sensational time over the half-mile in Sydney the other day, race in Auckland and Wellington during M a rc h ? This morning. the Auckland Swimming Centre wired acceptance of the invitation of the New Zealand Swimming Council to arrange for appearances in Auckland. Borg, says advice to the New Zealand Council from Australia, will leave Sydney on March 1 for Wellington and will leave Auckland for Europe, via America, on March 12, possibly by the Aorangi. If he is to compete in New Zealand a guarantee of £2O will have to be paid to the Australian Union, which had a frantic time enticing Borg to race in Australia. If the Auckland and the Wellington centres secure Borg’s services, they will have to pay bis travelling expenses while he is in the Dominion. In its wire to the Dominion control, the Auckland centre asked for appearances by Borg on March 9 and 11. Auckland women will be interested in Mrs. Borg, who is travelling with her husband. She was perfectly at ease, in spite of the gazing public, when she appeared in Sydney without stockings. Borg’s proposed visit seems more definite than the futile negotiations by Australia and New Zealand for tours by the American, Weismuller. Borg is no stranger to Auckland and is certain to be as popular in New Zealand as he is in Sydney. Wellington and Auckland are the only centres likely to secure appearances.
