OPENING DAY’S RESULTS AIRTIGHT FIRST WINNER (Special to THE SUEj rRENI The Wellington Racing Club’s summer meeting opened to-day in fine weather before a large holhiuv crowd. The track was hard. Results: TRENTHAM HIGH -WEIGHT H ANDICAP Of .£260. 1 mile. 1— AIRTIGHT. 9.7 1 2 TOAWAI, 0.4 2 3 STAR RAID. 9.2 .. 3 Ser.: Beaumont. I*aie Star. Mister Gamp, General Wai. Won by a head, a length between second and third. Time, 1.425. Mandarine, Bright Lind, Airtight. Thurnbcll and istar Raid were the early leaders along the back, but at the end of a couple of furlongs Bright Land took charge, to be joined by Teremoana at the home turn, with Thurnbell. Bright Day and Airtight close up. The last-named went to the front at the half-distance and survived a strong challenge by Toawai, to win by a beau, with Star Raid two lengths away, third. Zeuxis, Teremoana and Bright Land were right up in a bunch. The winner paid a fine price for a favourite. WELLINGTON STAKES Of £1,000; weight-for-age; 5 furlongs. 1 — HONOUR 1 6—FIRST MONEY •« 2 CHILDSPLAY 3 Ser.: Aspiring, Clever. My Own, Winloeh. Won by half a length, a length between second and third. Time, 59 3-.' Winner was bracketed with Goblin Market. Ceremony and Admiral Drake got the worst of the start, First MoneA Speedliglit. Childsplay and Goblin Market being in the first batch approaching the course proper. First Money was in front at the false rail front Honour and Childsplay. but finishing fast Honour wore First Monev down to score by three parts of a length, with Childsplay a length back third. Then came Francolln. Admiral Drake and Gay Ballerina. The winner and Goblin Market were bracketed. APPRENTICES’ PLATE, Of £260; 7 furlongs. S—MOORGAS . * j 3—GRAND ACRE 2 15— PAQUITO 3 Scratched: Pound Note, High Court, Landguard, Royal Black. Won by a neck, tiTee-quarters nf a length between second and third. Time, 1.284. Philliplc got away best from Gold Dawn, Full Mark and Llanore, but Grand Acre soon ran to the front to make play across the top and into the straight from Sylvan Dell, Clarendon, Filosel, Topere and Moorgas. The last-named finished stronglv over the final bit. but Grand Acre came again, and ran the winner to half a head, with Paquito half a length back third.

Next to finish were Filosel, Stanchion, Roi de Val, Llanore, and Full Mark.
