LABOUR PARTY PICNIC

TRIP TO PINE ISLAND Over 2,000 people were present at the annual picnic of the Auckland Labour Party, held at Pine Island yesterday. The Peregrine carried over 1,300 people and a number went by launch. All branches of the affiliated organisations of the Labour Pary were well represented and a fine sports programme, including many amusing no\ - elty events, was held. The Port Auckland Band was in attendance. Messrs. M. J. Savage and H. G. R. Mason. M.P.’s were present. The organisation of the picnic was in the hands of the secretary, Mr. H W. Vaughan, assisted by Mr. G. C. Grant. Following are the winners of the various events. Three-legged Rac. —J. Ball and Mits D. Wilson, 1; J. Munro and Miss J. Marsh, 2. Sealed Handicap (men).—W. Hookway, 1: G. A. Robinson, 2. 100 Yards Handicap, Open (men).—C. Kellett, 1; S. J. Ball. 2. Whistling Race. —Mr. and Mrs. R. Stanley. Single Ladies’ Race. —Miss J. Marsh, 1; Miss K. Smith, 2. Thread-the-Needle Race.—W. Rout and V. Robinson. Veterans’ Ftace. —B. Hart. Relay Race. —Won by No. 2 team, Birkenhead (C. Kellett, G. Batchelor, Miss D. Wilson and Miss J. Marsh).
