TERRIBLE DEATH

METHYLATED SPIRITS EXPLODE FIRE CONSUMES SHOP (Australian and N.Z. Press Association) MELBOURNE, Sunday. A dreadful fate overcame Richard Murray, aged 18, an upholsterer employed at Toorak, a suburb of Melbourne. He was engaged in soldering a four-gallon tin of methylated spirits when it exploded. The youth’s clothing was ignited and he was burnt to death. The shop in which Murray was working was set on fire. The flames spread to a stable and two horses were fatally burned. Six motor-cars, four hansom cabs and three wagonettes were destroyed.
