TIRELESS WEBSTER
SWAM FROM RANGITOTO
JUST CONTENTING HIMSELF
When he could not find a launch to accompany him on a swim from Tiri to Takapuna yesterday morning, indefatigable Ronald Webster contended himseir with a “hop’ from Rangitoto Island to the mainland.
The Takapuna Surf Club's dinghy ?sras used to take Webster, and three members of the club, to the Island, where Saturday night was spent. At 10.45 a.m. Webster entered the water at Rangitoto Beacon. Swimming easily and powerfully, Webster covered the four miles to Takapuna in exactly 90 minutes. , The previous after-
noon Webster gained fastest time in the Waiwdi Shield harbour race, and is undoubtedly in great form at present. SHARK MENACE
the journey, those in the dinghy had misgivings when a shark was seen a short distance ahead of Webster. A member of the club, stationed on the beach, also saw the shark through a telescope.
Webster is still seeking a launch for his Tiri swim. His present intentions are to make the attempt at low water about 11 a.m. on Wednesday morning, although it may be necessary to try next week-end. The distance is 12 miles.
